The Bachelor of Science in Coastal Environmental Studies at Stony Brook University's School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences is designed to provide students with a robust foundation in both physical and natural sciences. The curriculum prepares students to assess and address environmental challenges specific to coastal zones, including the impact of sea level rise, resource management, and policy development. Students gain proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), environmental policy, and leadership. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in coastal zone management, environmental consulting, regulation, or for further study in related graduate fields. The major requires completion of 73 credits; only one course with a grade below C (up to 4 credits) may count toward the degree, and pass/NC courses are not allowed.
