Stony Brook University’s Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences (CLS) is an upper-division program within the School of Health Professions. The program prepares students to become clinical laboratory scientists, vital healthcare professionals who perform and supervise laboratory tests crucial for diagnosing, monitoring, and treating diseases. Students complete prerequisite coursework (normally during the first two years, ideally at Stony Brook or via transfer) before entering the CLS major, which consists of a prescribed two-year, on-campus curriculum. Graduates are eligible for the National MLS ASCP Board Certification Exam and New York State licensure. The curriculum emphasizes technical proficiency, laboratory safety, and professional skills essential for modern healthcare teams.
