Stony Brook University's Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSW) program, offered by the School of Social Welfare, is a fully accredited, upper-division undergraduate program designed to prepare students for entry-level, generalist social work practice across diverse health and social welfare organizations. The curriculum combines classroom study and 12 credit hours of supervised fieldwork (internships) in settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, youth services, and schools. The first year focuses on foundational social work practice, human behavior in the social environment, political economy, and social/health policy. The second year includes advanced practice, social work research, and elective options. The program meets requirements for application to advanced standing MSW programs, enabling qualified graduates to complete a one-year MSW degree.
