The Master of Archaeology at the University of Amsterdam immerses students in the archaeology of Europe and the Mediterranean from the Bronze Age through the Early Modern Period. The program, jointly offered by the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam through the Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology (ACASA), offers two main specialisations: European and Mediterranean Archaeology, and Digital Archaeology and Heritage. It combines theoretical coursework with practice-oriented modules, including participation in ongoing research labs. Students benefit from small class sizes, exposure to advanced digital methods, and close ties with museums and archaeological institutions. Core topics include historical archaeology, human mobilities, digital practices, and heritage management. The program prepares graduates for careers in academic research, field archaeology, museums, and heritage management.
