The Master of Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo (Department of Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, AIS), is designed for trailblazing research and education at the intersection of diverse fields, fostering innovators who tackle complex modern challenges. The curriculum leverages both science and liberal arts, enabling students to bridge disciplinary boundaries through multidisciplinary research. Students select from extensive research themes led by faculty in core engineering courses and RCAST (Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology), with special electives in leadership, barrier-free/society-focused, and environment/energy programs. Many candidates study while working, and the program is open to domestic and international students aiming for research or professional careers in interdisciplinary innovation.
