Interdisciplinary Language Sciences at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, The University of Tokyo, is designed to cultivate scientific and multi-perspective understanding of language—both in its diversity and psychological, social, and computational roles. The curriculum focuses on a cross-linguistic and interdisciplinary approach, examining language from humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences perspectives. Students acquire practical proficiency in more than two foreign languages, develop media literacy, and are trained for research or careers in fields such as media, communication, education, and more. The program is closely linked with the Graduate School’s Department of Language and Information Sciences, offering research opportunities and advanced study pathways.
