The Interdisciplinary Social Sciences course at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, University of Tokyo, offers an integrated approach to the study of social phenomena in the contemporary world. Students engage with core social science disciplines including law, politics, economics, society, and culture, with a strong emphasis on crossing disciplinary boundaries. The curriculum features a relatively small number of required subjects, granting flexibility for students to pursue individualized academic interests. Areas such as environmental issues, gender and feminist studies, and the challenges of the information society are explored, along with training in social surveying, mathematical, and statistical analysis. This program champions liberal arts education suitable for a globalized era, fostering critical awareness of pressing social issues and cultivating close student–faculty interaction.
