The International Graduate Programme for East Asia Sustainable Economic Development Studies at Kyoto University's Faculty of Economics is designed to train students in both advanced academic theory and practical skills, focusing on the environmental, social, and governance challenges facing East Asian economies. The curriculum is multidisciplinary, combining economics with political, cultural, and ecological perspectives. Students will undertake coursework, research seminars, and field studies in government, industry, business, and rural communities. The program emphasizes sustainability, comparative perspectives, and policy analysis, preparing graduates for research, policy, or entrepreneurship roles related to sustainable development in East Asia. The medium of instruction is English, but students are encouraged to acquire Japanese and other East Asian language skills. Graduates typically pursue academic, governmental, or NGO careers with a focus on sustainable economic development.
