The Biology major at UW–Madison's College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) is designed for students with broad interests in the biological sciences. The program prepares undergraduates for diverse graduate programs, professional health fields (medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry), or general science careers. Students gain a broad exposure to the principles and practices of biology and can tailor their studies to specific interests, such as choosing a named option in Evolutionary Biology. The program emphasizes critical thinking, hands-on laboratory experience, and foundational knowledge across biological sub-disciplines. This major cannot be combined with Molecular and Cell Biology or Neurobiology majors. Entry does not require specific prior courses or minimum GPA, but enrollment is limited to students with fewer than 86 completed undergraduate credits.
