The Environmental Systems Engineering, B.S. at Penn State's College of Earth and Mineral Sciences uniquely prepares students to address critical environmental, safety, and health problems in industries such as energy and mineral resource extraction, conversion, and utilization. The curriculum blends theory, applications, and design with a focus on preventing and remediating environmental damage from industrial activity. Students acquire robust foundations in engineering and science fundamentals in the first two years, then take specialized courses in process engineering, environmental health, air, land, and water remediation, and safety engineering. The program offers extensive electives for sub-specialization and culminates in a capstone project focused on designing solutions for environmental and health challenges. Graduates are equipped for careers in both the private and public sectors as environmental systems engineers, health and safety engineers, or for advanced studies at graduate level.
