The Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) at Penn State’s College of Health and Human Development is a multidisciplinary program examining individual and family development across the lifespan. The curriculum prepares graduates for roles in health and human services, nonprofit and public agencies, and business, as well as for advanced study in diverse fields including social work, psychology, counseling, and health professions. Students gain broad knowledge in biological, psychological, social/cultural, and economic aspects of development, with two main options: Human Development and Family Science and Developmental Science for Health Professions. All students complete a capstone experience tailored to their interests, which may include internships or research projects. The program emphasizes cultural humility, applied skill development, and evidence-based practice for improving individual, family, and community well-being.
