The MEd in Art Education at the University of Victoria is a studio-intensive, two-year program. Students spend two summers in group studio environments for personal studio development, while fall and spring semesters focus on critical and creative explorations via online coursework. The program emphasizes both advanced art education theory and arts-based pedagogies, intended for students aiming to engage with K-12 and community-based art education. A unique feature is the individualized final project, developed around each student’s artistic interests, with a strong emphasis on both personal creative growth and practical classroom applications. Students are assigned studio spaces during summer intensives. The program is cohort-based, starting July 2025, and includes coursework such as Art Education Studio, Digital Arts, Research Issues in Art Education, and Arts-Based Research Methodologies.
