The Bio-Medical Science major at the University of Guelph, delivered jointly by the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences (College of Biological Science) and the Department of Biomedical Sciences (Ontario Veterinary College), offers a comprehensive exploration of human and animal health. Core areas include biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, histology, epidemiology, and pharmacology. The curriculum prepares students for advanced studies or professional opportunities in medicine, veterinary science, research, business, government, and education. The program is also designed to meet many prerequisites for medical school and veterinary school admission. Live animals or animal tissues are used for teaching in some courses with strict adherence to ethical regulations. Continuation in the major beyond first year is based on academic performance in core courses. Electives allow for focus on health and disease topics according to student interest.
