The Master of Arts in Child Study and Education (MA-CSE) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, is a two-year full-time professional graduate program delivered at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study. The program focuses on child development, educational theory, research-informed practice, and teacher education for primary/junior levels (Junior Kindergarten through Grade 6). Its philosophy emphasizes understanding children's developmental changes, individual differences, and the effects of social/physical environments. Students engage with both practical and research-oriented coursework, complete 22 half-courses, internships, practicum experiences, and are eligible upon graduation for recommendation for the Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification, qualifying them to teach in Ontario schools. There are two main fields, one emphasizing Practice-Based Inquiry (PBI), and the other Research-Intensive Training (RIT), both located in OISE's laboratory school.
