The Creative Initiatives in Teacher Education (CITE) specialization is a graduate-level, cohort-based teacher preparation program designed for conditionally certified teachers, paraeducators, and school-based professionals seeking to earn both a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree and eligibility for Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Initial Certification in Elementary Education (grades 1-6), all while maintaining school-based employment. The program spans 34 credits over two years and uses a blended learning model integrating both in-person and online coursework. Students complete an MSDE-required internship as part of their current school-based role. The curriculum emphasizes research-based instructional strategies, multicultural education, and reflective teaching practices. Graduates are prepared to foster academic, social, and emotional growth in diverse elementary school settings and build professional learning communities within their schools.
