The Bachelor of Arts in Religions of the Ancient Middle East (RAME) at the University of Maryland College Park examines the origins and development of biblical Israel, ancient Judaism, Christianity, early Islam, as well as Greek, Roman, and other ancient Near Eastern religious traditions. The program offers a multidisciplinary and comparative approach through courses in history, art history, classics, Jewish studies, and more, developing students’ ability to interpret cultural, religious, and political phenomena past and present. Coursework includes foundational courses, multiple electives (with at least four at upper level), and a capstone seminar. The major is ideal for students interested in careers in research, public policy, education, and related fields, or as part of a double major. An optional Language Track allows further specialization in Hebrew, Arabic, Greek, or other ancient languages, supporting in-depth research in primary sources.
