The Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language and Literature at the University of Maryland College Park, offered by the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in the College of Arts and Humanities, immerses students in the Russian language, culture, history, and literature. The curriculum is designed to achieve high proficiency in Russian, while providing foundational knowledge of the Russian Federation and Russian-speaking communities across the globe—including literature, art, cuisine, traditions, and more. Students benefit from small class sizes, individualized attention, specialized opportunities such as the Maya Brin Residency Program, access to study abroad programs, and eligibility for scholarships and awards. Many students combine Russian with another discipline (double major). The major requires 40 credits beyond the prerequisite elementary Russian courses (RUSS101, RUSS102, or equivalent).
