This interdisciplinary program prepares students to apply computational and data science methods to modern biology. Students gain foundational knowledge in computer science and engineering and specialize in bioinformatics, obtaining expertise in biomolecular data sources, genome sequencing and analysis, computational algorithms, machine learning, databases, and experimental techniques for modeling information flow in biological systems. Graduates are equipped for careers in academia, healthcare, biotechnology, and data-driven science industries, as well as for further study at the graduate level. The curriculum includes core courses in computer science, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics, plus specialized bioinformatics coursework. Example topics range from algorithms for genetic analysis to biomedical databases and statistical learning methods for bioinformatics.
