NYU Tisch’s MIAP provides an international, comprehensive education in the theories, methods, and practices of moving image archiving and preservation. The curriculum covers moving image conservation and preservation, collection management, metadata standards and application, copyright and legal issues, curatorial work, and the histories of cinema and television. It combines humanities (history and context of moving images) with sciences/engineering (technical processes of media creation, deterioration, and restoration) and embeds real-world experience through required internships across archives, museums, libraries, and related organizations. The program trains students to handle film, video, digital, and new media across diverse environments and requires two years of full-time study (64 credits).
