NYU College of Arts & Science’s Philosophy BA explores fundamental questions about reality, knowledge, reasoning, language, and conduct. Core areas include metaphysics, epistemology, logic, and ethics, with additional study in philosophy of art, law, medicine, mind, politics, religion, and the sciences. The program aims to develop students’ abilities to identify, clarify, and assess answers to these questions across historical and contemporary traditions, preparing graduates for advanced study and analytic careers (e.g., law, business, programming). The major requires at least 11 philosophy courses (44 credits), includes a logic requirement (PHIL-UA 70) and historical distribution (Ancient Greek and Roman; Early Modern European), and offers an honors track with junior and senior seminars and a thesis.
