Gender and Sexuality Studies (GSS) at NYU’s College of Arts & Science is housed in the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis. The program offers broad interdisciplinary investigation of gender and sexuality as central terms of analysis in human experience, examining how they shape social roles and identities across cultural contexts and in relation to race, ethnicity, locality, nation, and circulation. The curriculum encourages students to question gender and sexual norms and to analyze the social and political implications of hierarchies (e.g., male/heterosexual) while engaging with global and intersectional perspectives. The major requires nine 4-credit courses (36 credits) completed with a grade of C or better; students are encouraged to build language and linguistic competencies and may pursue an honors track with a senior seminar and thesis for eligible GPAs.
