NYU CAS’s European and Mediterranean Studies BA is an interdisciplinary major examining Europe and the Mediterranean’s politics, culture, and society, combining contemporary issues with historical developments and advanced study of a European language. Majors tailor coursework across CEMS and related departments (e.g., history, political science, international relations, cultural/regional studies on the EU, Eastern Europe, Mediterranean) and are required to attain language proficiency above the intermediate level in a major European language other than English and to study abroad at an NYU European site. The program prepares for careers in public service, NGOs, cultural institutions, international business and law, media, and education, and for graduate study. An honors track requires 10 courses (40 credits) including an independent-study thesis of ~40–60 pages with a 3.65 GPA threshold.
