NYU College of Arts & Science’s joint BA in Classics and Art History provides a rigorous, wide-ranging study of the Greek and Roman worlds alongside global art history from antiquity to the present. Art History at NYU covers ancient, medieval, Renaissance, baroque, modern, contemporary, and global traditions (including East and South Asian, Islamic, Latin American, African, Oceanic, Pre‑Columbian, and Native American), and includes conservation and museology opportunities as well as study-away offerings; New York City’s museums and galleries serve as an extended classroom. Classics explores languages and literatures, art and archaeology, history, philosophy, religion, politics, economics, and law of Greece and Rome, with comparative ancient world courses and robust co-curricular opportunities in NYC collections and study abroad in Greece and Italy. The program requires 128 total degree credits with a structured plan that includes six approved 4‑credit courses in classical art and archaeology (24 credits) within the major, complemented by CAS core and elective credits. Learning outcomes include understanding of classical archaeology principles and related competencies as outlined in the bulletin PDF.
