NYU College of Arts & Science’s Department of Art History offers a rigorous, wide-ranging education across global art from antiquity to the present, covering painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, graphic media, manuscript illumination, decorative arts, and aspects of urban design. The program is one of few undergraduate offerings in the U.S. with extensive courses in conservation and museology and leverages New York City’s museums, galleries, and architecture for on-site learning; study-away art history courses are also available in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Florence, London, Madrid, Paris, and Prague. The department sponsors an honors program culminating in a senior honors thesis and publishes the undergraduate journal Ink & Image. Graduates commonly enter museums, galleries, auction houses, and nonprofits, or pursue graduate study toward curatorial, conservation, and academic careers.
