The School Social Work (SSW) Licensure Program at The Ohio State University College of Social Work is a specialized curriculum within the Master of Social Work (MSW) program. The program prepares graduates to meet the Ohio Department of Education licensure requirements for School Social Work. Graduates can work in public, private, and charter schools or community mental health agencies serving schools. The curriculum provides advanced training in direct intervention, administrative change, community awareness, and policy reform, coupled with an advanced field practicum in a school setting. Students complete 15 credit hours of specialized SSW core coursework alongside MSW program requirements, including seminars and courses focused on children, adolescents, and exceptional children, plus a school-based practicum.
