The Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Sciences at Ohio State University's College of Arts and Sciences offers an in-depth study of weather and climate systems. Students explore interactions between the Earth's surface and atmosphere, covering topics such as severe storms, floods, droughts, and global climate change. The curriculum fulfills the American Meteorological Society's 1340 Series requirements, which are also necessary for federal meteorology positions (such as with NOAA and the National Weather Service). Graduates are prepared for careers in operational/broadcast meteorology as well as research roles in environmental monitoring, policy, private industry, or the military. The program features coursework in calculus, physics, chemistry, atmospheric thermodynamics, dynamic meteorology, climate modeling, and hands-on experiences such as internships and participation in professional student organizations.
