The Computer and Information Science (CIS) program at Ohio State University's College of Arts and Sciences offers two undergraduate degrees: a BA and a BS. The BA provides a broad, liberal arts education with focused study in computing, allowing students to combine computer science with another related field. The BS emphasizes deeper scientific and mathematical foundations alongside computer science coursework. Both tracks prepare students for diverse computing careers by equipping them with skills in software development, algorithms, systems, and emerging technologies. The program is interdisciplinary, reflecting computing's impact across society and other academic fields. Both degrees require core courses as well as electives in areas such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, information security, networks, graphics, and software engineering. Admission to the CIS major is competitive; students must first apply and be admitted as CIS-PRE (pre-major) students, meet minimum CPHR requirements, and complete prerequisites in mathematics, computing, and writing.
