The School of Earth Sciences at Ohio State University’s College of Arts and Sciences offers both Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in Earth Sciences. The BA program is broad and designed for students interested in careers such as high school science teaching, law, business, medicine, or technical writing, requiring foundational coursework in geology, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. The BS program provides rigorous scientific and mathematical training, preparing students for professional earth science careers in industry, government, or academia. BS students specialize in tracks such as Geological Sciences, Geophysics, or Climate, Water and the Environment. The curriculum emphasizes research, fieldwork (including required field camp for some subprograms), and often culminates in a senior thesis. Both programs offer flexibility to tailor coursework with minors or certificates and opportunities to participate in research and field-based learning.
